Finding the most suitable race for a horse to win is probably one of the most difficult tasks in racing. Whether it is in the Spring Carnival or picking out a maiden, it is never easy.

There are times where trainers are forced to travel a little further than usual to find that right race and obviously a 1,000km trip to Mackay from Jacobs Well is not often on the radar.

However, the right race presented itself for our four-year-old mare called Chocolate and Lace. Having only her second career start and being first-up from a spell, she was sent to Mackay to break her maiden status and she did it in fine style.

Sent straight to the front from apprentice Ashley Butler, the daughter of Tycoon Ruler was always in control and raced away to record a 1 1/4 length victory. The added bonus was that Chocolate and Lace qualified for the extra QTIS prizemoney.

Although the race had a prize pool of $10,000, Chocolate and Lace walked away with a total of $20,500 after the bonuses. So it is safe to say that the trip north was certainly worth while.

Congratulations to the winning owner Jenny Laming and the whole team
