While the standard presents that are given on Mother's Day are usually flowers, chocolates and gardening tools (sorry Mum), Lamichi decided to deliver the perfect present with a victory at Sale over 1700m.

Although any victory is worth celebrating, Lamichi's owner Jenny Laming will tell anyone who is willing to listen that despite all of the top racehorses she has owned over the years, Lamichi is one of her most favourite.

Lamichi, a four-year-old mare by Fusaichi Pegasus is out of the Zabeel mare Blaze Em, whom Jenny also used to own. Lamichi has always shown plenty of ability and is now starting to show her true potential.

She has now recorded her second win, both of which have been at the big spacious Sale track. Lamichi was well ridden by promising apprentice Ben Knobel who had to call on all her strength in the straight to record a tough 1/2 neck win.

The race was made even better when our other representative, Cape Silver came from near last on the turn and flew home to finish third. That was his second start in Victoria since moving down from Queensland and he is not far away from picking up a race himself.

Lamichi's win was not the only highlight of the weekend with lightly raced filly Lady Mary getting a black-type placing next to her name with a third placing in the listed Ken Russell Classic for two-year-olds. Purchased for only $34,000 at last years Gold Coast Magic Millions sale, Lady Mary has only had three career starts and is well on the way to repaying that purchase price.
