New Zealand import Benelli recorded an impressive victory on Saturday at Caulfield in the Griffiths Coffee Handicap over 1800m.

Brilliantly ridden by top jockey Craig Williams, Benelli had to pull out all stops in the straight to hold off the challenge from Magic Instinct.

While many punters doubted Benelli’s ability to run out a strong 1800m, they were proven wrong as not only did he have to carry 58kg, he was challenged all the way down the straight and looked to increase his margin in the final stages.

Benelli has now proven himself good enough to have a crack at some of the better races in the spring.  Congratulations to the winning owners Michael Manion and Jenny Laming.  Benelli has now won almost $140,000 in prize money in just five Australian starts.
