It has been an exciting few days recently for the Laming Team with some very nice purchases over the Magic Millions Sales, a lot of interest in the European horses with both having shares bought by prominent owners along with new connnections that are thrilled to be a part of the adventure and topped off by a winner at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday by Solo Saga.
The 3yo by Real Saga had returned from a stay at our Cranbourne stables where he had raced competitively but without much luck. With the addition of winkers and with Grant Cooksley in the saddle, he managed to be first past the post even though he blew the start giving his competitors a considerale headstart. Cooksley aka "The Iceman" lived up to his name, not panicking by the blundered beginning and calmly steered the gelding to his 2nd victory from only 10 starts mowing down the leaders to win by 1/2 a length running away.
Meanwhile at the Magic Millions Sales, a short time later, Bevan secured the purchase of a lovely bay filly by One More No More out of La Chiflota, Lot 863 for a very reasonable price of $20,000.
A couple of days earlier, Richard purchased an outstanding chestnut filly (pictured) by the ill fated Northern Meteor. Lot 178 she is out of Fairytale Dancer and just floats along so athletically light on her feet. Her quality was reflected in her price which was a more substantial $200,000.
Also heading to the Cranbourne stables is a lovely bay filly by Not A Single Doubt, also negotiated by Richard to seal the deal well below the asking price and scoring her for a relatively measley $80,000.
The Magic Milions Sale this year was an exceptionally strong one with a lot of overseas interest, so to buy these 3 lovely horses at the prices we got was very pleasing. Horses like these are the future of our stable, as they are with all large stables, we rely on young horses to be the up and comers and we look forward to seeing how they develop with the additional specialist attention and care our stables can offer that the larger ones can't.
