Spring is in the air and while the majority of the racing industry is focused on the Melbourne carnival, another important part of the industry is also enjoying their time of the year.
At this time each year, the next batch of superstars are born across the country. When these foals enter the world, it is hard to imagine that in only a few years time, they will develop into top class racehorses that weigh more than 500kg.
Although most thoroughbred trainers do not breed their own horses, Laming Racing have always retained our better mares once their racing careers end for breeding purposes.
This practice has proven to be successful over the years with our mares producing recent winners such as Lamichi, Face The Front, Cape Silver and Indeed I Am along with 2008 Eclipse Stakes winner Eskimo Dan.
Our 2010 foals are starting to arrive including this lovely filly by multiple group 1 winner Elvstroem. She is out of the mare Just The Star who was raced by Laming Racing in partnership with long-time owner/breeder Paul Felgate. Just The Star was a city winner and ended up with more than $100,000 in prize money and we are now excited about her prospects as a mum.
It is a very exciting time of the year and we are looking forward to seeing how this filly and many others develop over the coming years.
