Lightly raced mare Lamichi appreciated the drop in class on Tuesday at Sale to break her maiden status.
Now a four-year-old, Lamichi has had eight career starts however the majority of them have been in metropolitan races including the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last spring.
Jumping back to maiden grade for only the second time, Lamichi was able to control the race from the front and win comfortably over 1700m thanks to a good ride from Danny Brereton.
With plenty of staying blood in her pedigree, Lamichi looks to be a stayer of the future. Her dam Blaze Em is by Zabeel and was also trained by Laming Racing, she was able to win over 2150m.
Blaze Em is also a half sister to the Hong Kong champion sprinter Green Birdie. With good breeding on her side, each win is important for Lamichi as a broodmare once she finishes her racing career. She has always promised to win a good race in her career and this would considerably enhance her value in the breeding barn.
Lamichi will keep stepping up in distance during this preparation and now that she knows what it takes to win, expect plenty more in the future.
Congratulations to her winning owner Jenny Laming, Lamichi is her favourite horse in the Melbourne stable and this win meant a lot to her.
Well done to the whole Laming Racing team.
