Lightly raced Umatilla four-year-old gelding Tune Him Up recorded his first victory on Sunday with a comfortable win in the 1400m Maiden Plate at Sale.
Resuming from a spell after a promising first preparation, Tune Him Up had shown in his work at home and in his trials that a win wasn’t going to be too far away.
Jockey Mark Flaherty settled Tune Him Up right behind the leader before easing out at the top of the straight and proving to be far too strong in the run home. The official margin was 1 1/2 Lengths and a further 2 1/4 Lengths to the third placed horse.
This win opens up a few doors now for Tune Him Up as he will definitely improve as he ventures out over the longer distances. Now that the first win is behind him, hopefully there will be a few more shortly. Congratulations to winning owner Jenny Laming.
In other news, Exceed All Limits ran a much improved race to finish third. The run was very solid as he had to do plenty to work early in the race to get to the front, and was only beaten by two potential city class performers.
Mr Beau also improved on his last start performance to finish fourth and now with some match fitness under his belt, a win looks around the corner while Resettle did not enjoy the best of luck yet still battled on well in the straight. She is definitely worth following when she next steps out.
