Four-year-old gelding Crossthestart made it three wins in his last four starts with another solid victory at Doomben.
Tackling the 2020m trip for the first time, jockey Jim Byrne had Crossthestart relaxed in the middle of the field and made his run out wide just before entering the straight. Once they had straightened up, the son of Cape Cross cruised up to the leaders and always looked in control.
With the impressive victory, Crossthestart may have now booked his ticket to the lucrative Sydney spring carnival with the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap over 2400m in mind.
Crossthestart has now won just over $100,000 in prize money for the Laming Racing team in only six starts. Congratulations again to owner Dick Karreman.
With that being the last Saturday meeting for the season, it is a good chance to look back on some of the city winners that we have had over the past few months, Eskimo Dan, Benelli, Crossthestart, Naadji and Phaze Action.
The next season is only going to be better with plenty of exciting youngsters in the stable.
