Although everyone is on the lookout for the next champion two-year-old who is eligible to race for millions of dollars, it is very important for each stable to have those bread and butter horses that are consistent and reliable.

These horses are usually the older horses who are able to back up week after week and keep earning a cheque at every run.

Quite often these guys become stable favourites as they are great natured however they have each learnt a few tricks over the years. This is definitely the case with the three old boys in our Victorian Stable.

While the term "Dad's Army" might sound a little uncomplimentary, Naadji, Chiefcomingfirst (pictured) and Mr Smile know that they call the shots around the stable.

Naadji (six years old), Mr Smile (seven) and Chiefcomingfirst (eight) have all been back in work for a few months and are ready to go back to the races within the next week.

They have all been showing good signs at the trials and will start over shorter trips before stepping up to the staying distances over the next few months.

While they each still have plenty to offer on the flat, you can expect to see at least a couple of them heading towards the lucrative jumps races through the winter where they have been displaying good ability at home.

In other news, we will see plenty heading back to the races shortly. They have all been trialling well and we are looking forward to the coming weeks.
