Laming Racing recently had some representatives visit the UK to attend a large auction with an interest in purchasing raced horses with the potential to be Melbourne Cup contenders. Specifically targeting horses with staying ability partnered with the ability to outsprint the usual 3200m horses. With the assistance of some of the worlds leading bloodstock analysts, horses with high time form ratings in Europe were of particular interest.
Given the time to acclimatise to Australian conditions, these European horses seem to thrive on a different training regime, then have their ratings readjusted to the Australian rules, allowing them to target much easier races than what they had been competing in Europe and go through the grades without the weight penalties
It is proven how competetive the imported European horses are and how superior they are, especially in our staying races.
With this in mind, two exceptional colts were purchased. The first being a striking steely grey 3yo by Verglas (pictured), a very popular sire that died in 2011 as a 17yo leaving a huge amount of progeny that have done him proud, one of the more famous being Glass Harmonium
Glacial Age has had 8 career starts for 1-3-1. His win being by a dominant 11 lengths over 1600m and also running 3rd in the French Derby Trial to a horse called Magician who then went on to America to win the Breeders Cup on turf. He promises to be an extremely good investment and is a very exciting horse.
The other purchase is a horse called Refectory. Also a 3yo colt by the proven Champion Sire Danehill Dancer, he has had only 4 career starts never to be out of the first 3 placings, boasting a record of 1-1-2. Winning over 2400m by 9 lengths, we are delighted to have secured the purchase of this lovely athletic horse of whom we hold in very high regard.
Both horses have reportedly arrived in extremely good health in Australia and will be released from quarantine this Saturday 21st of Dec after 2 weeks on our shores. We anticipate a very successful career for both horses and welcome all their new owners that have joined us on this adventure! There are very limited shares left in both horses so if you would like more information please contact us on 03 59 989 188.
