This Saturday at Doomben is starting to shape as a pivotal day for our team heading towards the Winter carinval in Queensland.
In race 2, Dr Ichi lines up in the 2yo Handicap over 1000m. After winning impressively on debut back in January, the son of Dr Green was immediately sent for a spell. He has been ticking along nicely at home and we are expecting a good return. Larry Cassidy will take the ride.
Later in the day we are represented by our two stars of last years Winter carnival.
Crossthestart (pictured), winner of the 2010 Brisbane Cup takes his place in race 6 over 1350m. He returned a fortnight ago after nine months off due to injury and ran a slashing fourth coming from last. This race looks a tough ask for him as he has to not only carry the top weight of 60kg, his has to do it from the widest barrier (14).
In the following race, top filly Ringa Ringa Rosie returns for her first run since a luckless Melbourne spring. She has been a great earner for connections and will look to build on that in Saturday's race worth $100,000. Her task won't be easy however, she has to carry 58kg and jump from a wide barrier (currently 18 before scratchings).
Leading jockey Chris Munce takes the ride on both Crossthestart and Ringa Ringa Rosie. He enjoyed much success with both of them last winter and let's hope that can continue.
Good luck to all connections over the weekend.
