Tune Him Up recorded his second career victory on Thursday at Ipswich in the Class 1 1680m. The combination of having one of the states leading jockeys along with the extra distance proved to be enough to get the son of Umatilla over the line.
However he was made to work hard for the victory, with the winning margin only a short half head. He raced comfortably in the second half of the field throughout the race, but once he hit a flat spot with about 600m to go, Byrne showed great initiative to set him running around the field and put him into the race.
It proved to be the winning move as it allowed Tune Him Up to be within striking distance in the straight and after a dive right on the line, Tune Him Up prevailed in a tight four-way finish.
He now takes his record to 2 wins and 3 placings from 12 starts and going on this performance there is plenty more enjoyment left for his owner Jenny Laming.
In other news, talented stayer Phaze Action resumes from a spell at Flemington this weekend with his long term goal being the Adelaide Cup. He resumes over 1600m this weekend with Michelle Payne to take the ride.
We are also represented by debutantes Ready To Race at Mornington and Hooray at Cranbourne. Good luck to all involved.
