Laming Racing were represented by three runners across Australia over the weekend with some good results.
Enterprise Star was having his fourth start in Queensland after a stint in Victoria and he finally managed to break his maiden status. He has always shown ability, yet kept finding a way to get beaten in his races.
Stepping out over 1800m at the Gold Coast on Saturday, Enterprise Star met with some early trouble before jockey Garry Baker decided to avoid any further problems by taking him to the front mid-race and he was never headed. He looked to be tiring in the straight, but the challengers behind him were just as tired and he maintained a winning margin of two and a half lengths.
Congratulations to winning owners Paul Felgate, Chris Dooley, John O’Connor and Jenny Laming.
A bit further north, exciting juvenile Ringa Ringa Rosie was sent out as one of the more popular picks in the listed Calaway Gal stakes, a $100,000 race for two-year-old fillies. After drawing the outside barrier, jockey Michael Cahill was forced to settle at the tail before getting to the outside at the top of the straight.
While the leaders had established a winning break, Ringa Ringa Rosie was able to make up many lengths in the straight to finish third, only two and a half lengths from the winner. That race was over 1000m, so her effort suggests that the 1200m of the Magic Millions classic will be right down her alley.
Our final runner of the weekend was Sea Skye at Flemington. Sea Skye finished down the track and on paper the result didn’t look too good, however the race was run at a very slow pace and this did not allow Sea Skye or the short-priced favourite any chance of making ground.
Sea Skye will now head to the paddock for a well earned rest after a campaign that landed two wins and plenty of fun for the owners.
