Talented stayer Chiefcomingfirst put the disappointment of his last start behind him yesterday with a more improved run at Sandown. He travelled well in the run and stuck to the inside fence in the straight when his rivals moved into the better going in the middle. He fought on well and finished fourth, not far from the winner.
That run suggested he is back to normal and he will be on the quick back up this Wednesday at Sandown where he steps out over the further trip of 2400m. Good luck to all of his owners.
In other action yesterday, the stable had three runners at the Sunshine Coast with a couple of close-up placings. Whataman came from well back to finish third, right behind the winner. Cape Silver also bounced back with a strong performance to finish second.
This weekend we will see the return of Crossthestart in Queensland when he resumes in the 1500m handicap after a freshen up. He will be aiming to pick up from where he left off winning three of last four starts. The promising son of Cape Cross is on trial for a possible stint at the Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick in October.
