Three-year-old Flying Spur gelding Fly With Me produced what we all knew he was capable of with an all the way victory in the XXXX Gold Maiden Plate at Doomben on Australia Day.

After a very disappoining performance on Magic Millions Day, it was time to step him up in distance and make a minor gear adjustment and it certainly did the trick when Fly With Me went to the lead, gave a kick in the straight and ran away to score by 1 3/4 lengths over the 1615m.

Even though it was a maiden, the win netted $28,800 in prizemoney as it was a metropolitan race.  Fly With Me has now had seven starts for one win and three thirds.

The win started off a career best day for leading jockey Jim Byrne as it was the first of five winners on the card.  That makes it two wins in his last two rides for Laming Racing as he scored on Tune Him Up at Ipswich last week.  I am sure there will be plenty more to come.

Congratulations to the winning owners Phil Cater, Dennis and Claire O’Brien and Jenny Laming.
